Product Design is the process of making selection about multiple attributes involved in the development of the product. It helps in bringing the effective and efficient evolution for turning the product into the final stage. (Boothroyd, 1994, pp. 505-520). There are varieties of processes which help in designing the product and services. These processes include the generation of idea for new products, to planning, testing and implementing strategies for production of final product. In this essay, I will be going to Identify and critically evaluate the main characteristics of product and service design and innovation from the marketing perspective. Secondly, the discussion will be on distinction between the key characteristics of the design process in the context of stylistic change, fashion and consumer taste, including the nature of design management and the importance of design and innovation in enhancing competitiveness. Thirdly, discussion will cover critical appraisal of the importance of patenting ideas, design registration, trade marking and intellectual property on new products and services. Lastly, I will critically examine compelling organisational theories and alternative theoretical frameworks around the study of organisation.

In my opinion product design is the process of making selection about multiple attributes involved in the development of the product. What I learned from this module that product design helps in bringing the effective evolution for efficiently turning product into final product. On the other hand service design deals with the process of characterizing the idea of providing services to the customer with the help of specifications and meaningful representations. According to me, there are varieties of processes which help in designing the product and services. Firstly the process of generating an idea, this idea generation process helps in identifying the viable new product or services offerings which can be a commendable for developing a formal design process for a product or services. After the idea generation there is a fuzzy approach it is more procedural approach. This approach deals with the development of the more creative ideas that results in the emergence of the technological development. In my opinion, for understanding the importance of the product design process, the example of transition from the internal combustion engine to the electrical propulsion system is important, which resulted in the opportunity in automobile sector; with this opportunity many car manufacturers changed the car design. So, in my judgment the style of generating new ideas must use some of the techniques for providing the information which can help in implementing the best type of new product design process and service offering. Therefore, the most common techniques used for evaluating that either the attempted approach is efficient or not includes SWOT analysis and quality function deployment. Therefore, in my belief it is very important to use the techniques for evaluating the approach because the consumers often use both objective and subjective criteria for evaluating the product. However, the new product design system only focuses on the objective attributes of the product.
