Assignment 1.1

Discussion

The topic of the selected article, which is written by Daniel Goleman, is “Leadership and Intelligence”. Leadership and intelligence both are closely related to each other. According to the Goleman, winning leaders are allied with the three intelligence levels, which are emotional intelligence, social intelligence and change intelligence. According to my opinion, all these levels are necessary for the leaders to be successful at their positions and in their responsibilities. Author has mainly focus on the emotion quotient. But according to me, all quotients of the leadership are also necessary with the emotional intelligence. Most of the people think that IQ is the main leadership component, which is not completely true. As for being successful leader in all situations Emotional Quotient, Social Quotient and Change quotient all are important with the IQ level of the leaders. Invitations and challenges are the factors for assessment of the leader's preparedness for the emotions. Change Quotient is also one of the important levels, because leaders have to recognize, understand, implement and manage the change for being successful at their place (Goleman, 2001).

Discussion

The article “Discovering Your Authentic Leadership”, which is written by Bill George, Peter Sims, Andrew N. McLean, and Diana Mayer, is selected for the review. According to me, for being an authentic leader a person must have to be willing to live fearlessly, must have ability to stand alone, want to be true and free than any other thing, must have to act like a hero, must have spirit to avoid nothing and face everything, must have ability to take responsibilities for oneself without any conditions, must have proper aim for the life and must consider all things formally. Leadership is not completely a function of situational circumstances, but majority of the best style of leadership that is use is situational leadership. Leaders should always act according to the severity of the situation and circumstances. Therefore, situational leadership style is always considered the best. Managers and leaders both are different like manager is a formal position, while a person can become leader because of his/her qualities. A manager can not necessarily become a good leader, but a leader can become a successful manager (George, et.al, 2007).

A selected article “A Leader's Guide to Why People Behave the Way They do” is written by Edward Deci. There are different factors for which every single human is same like other human and different from other humans. According to my opinion, these similarities and dissimilarities in human behaviors are because of the following factors such as nature, genetics, human characteristics, regional culture, family culture, organizational culture, national culture and individual characteristics. Leaders should have to understand and focus on all these factors for controlling and self understand their behaviors.
