Introduction

Media in United States is comprised of a number of communication mediums such as television, newspapers, magazines, radio, and cinema and online or web based communication. United States also has a very strong music industry. Most of the media channels are controlled by the private organizations that generate profit by the advertising and through the sale of the copyrighted materials as well as from subscription of these materials. In past few years, American Media has confronted with a number of issues including decrease in the audience turnover, decrease in profits, propaganda, discrimination and plagiarism. The presence of the elements of media distortion, omissions, bias and inaccuracy is recognized by many people outside USA and it is also getting acknowledged by many within USA. Despite that there are fields in media that is growing and is considered as one of the world's best fields. This includes American film industry which is known as Hollywood. Hollywood contains offices and the major film studios and film companies. The first Hollywood movie was filmed in 1911. Since that time, Hollywood became the center of world cinema. American film industry is a powerful and highly structured industry, in which the financing and marketing are always in the forefront of decision criteria (Gottfried, 1997).

Discussion

This part of the paper discusses three different American movies. With the help of the discussion of these three different movies an attempt is made to show that there are a number of movies are produced in different genres. The three movies that are selected for discussion include Ray, Hangover and The Notebook.

Movie “Ray” is a phenomenal movie that portrays a larger than life figure Charles Ray and different aspect of his life. This movie is the portrayal of an eminent and prolific musician Ray Charles. The most controversial issue of his life was his addiction to drugs. So this drug addiction is also shown in the movie. Jamie Foxx portrays the role of Ray Charles in the flick. Foxx beautifully portrays boldness of Charles' personality. In many scenes that show Charles' concerts and stage performances Foxx presents Charles' style in such a way that one may feel that he or she is actually attending a concert of Charles. One may feel that he or she is thrown back in time by watching remarkable performance of Jamie Foxx in the movie. The movie reflects Charles's addiction to heroin. During the early part of his life he was forced to heroin addiction. His addiction to drugs was a great threat to his career. There is also a scene in the movie that shows that Los Angeles police attempts to catch him for the third time when he tries to buy drugs from a drug dealer in street. It was the fortune of Ray Charles that saved him from spending tough time in jail. Rather he struggled in rehabilitation institute to get rid of his habit of drugs intake.
