American Jobs & Outsourcing

Thesis Statement

“The United States Government must keep a check on the flight of jobs and manufacturing to other parts of the world in order to ensure the Economic development and prosperity of Americans”.

Introduction

Over the past few decades, there has been a continuous debate on the outsourcing of American jobs to other parts of the world. Companies and businesses tend to adopt outsourcing due to the decreased costs of operations and cheap availability of labor. Outsourcing of American jobs and the manufacturing sector deprives the American workforce of thousands of jobs each year. To add to the adversity of the situation, the trend is not only continuing, but in fact more companies are opting to outsource their jobs and manufacturing plants to various countries in Asia and other parts of the world. “In order to ensure the economic development and prosperity of the United States, the flight of American jobs should be minimized and adequate legislation should be done to stop the process”.

There seems to be a shortage of all kinds of jobs i.e. technical, corporate, laborious etc. The recent meltdown of the economy has also added to the adversity of US economy (Olive, 2004).

On the other hand, the proponents of outsourcing and shifting of the manufacturing sector to other countries believe that such measures result in increased revenues to the companies. Hence, they result in the economic stability and prosperity of the Americans. But, even if the companies are flourishing with increased corporate revenues and global operations, the overall cost of the decision should also be considered. According to a poll conducted in March 2007, more than 72% of Americans believed that outsourcing jobs hurts the American economy and also affects their lifestyle (Khan, 2009).
